The Bills looked tired as this was their 5th pre-season game.  Ryan Fitzpatrick started this game and he completed 9 of 17 passes for 78 yards with 1 interception.  Gibran Hamdan finished up this mess by completing 9 of 17 passe for 163 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT.  Fullback Corey McIntyre was the leading rusher in this game for the Bills with 29 yards on 7 carries (4.1 ypc).  Bruce Hall was also busy carrying the ball 11 times for 28 yards (2.5 ypc).  Steve Johnson led the way in the passing game for the Bills with 69 yards on 3 catches (23.0 avg).  The Bills finished up with 321 total yards in this game (87 rushing, 234 passing) but they only scored six points and that’s awful.

Linebacker Nic Harris led the Bills’ “defense” with 12 tackles and he defensed 1 pass.  The Lions rolled up 422 total yards on offense (249 rushing, 173 passing) in this game.  The most embarrassing stat about his game was that the Lions averaged 6.7 yards per carry on the ground!  The Bills hope to play better when the games count as they were 1-4 in the pre-season.

The Buffalo Bills got pushed around big time Saturday Night against the World Champs in Pittsburgh.  Trent Edwards was pathetic in this game as he completed 6 of 13 passes for 31 yards with a interception.  The interception was returned 22 yards for a TD by Steelers’ LB James Farrior.  Ryan Fitzpatrick finished up this game by outplaying Edwards despite not putting up any points on the board as he completed 8 of 11 passes for 65 yards.  Marshawn Lynch led the Bills on the ground with 19 yards on 4 carries (4.8 ypc).  Roscoe Parrish led the Bills’ receivers with 4 catches for 22 yards.  The Bills only had possession of the football in this game for 18:45 as they could only muster 135 total yards on offense (49 rushing, 86 passing).

LB Kawika Mitchell led a somewhat decent effort by the Bills’ defense with 8 tackles.  The Steelers finished up with 359 total yards of offense (81 rushing, 278 passing) in this game.  The yardage total is not that bad when you consider the Steelers had the ball for 41:15.

Green Bay Packers 31, Buffalo Bills 21

The Bills got punished in the first half of this game as they were down 24-0 at the break before the scrubs mounted a good fight in the 2nd half.  Trent Edwards did not look too sharp in this game as he completed 7 of 11 passes for 45 yards with 1 interception.  Ryan Fitzpatrick played decent completing 12 of 16 passes for 112 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  Gibran Hamdan was impressive again finishing this game out for the Bills completing 7 of 11 passes for 137 yards.  Dominic Rhodes led the way on the ground for the Bills in this game as he rushed for 39 yards on 6 carries (6.5 ypc).  Xavier Omon was also busy in this game rushing 5 times for 6 yards (1.2 ypc) with a TD and he also caught 2 passes for 61 yards (30.5 avg).  TE Jonathan Stupar led the way in the passing game for the Bills in this game with 5 receptions for 63 yards (12.6 avg) with a TD.  The Bills finished up with 363 total yards on offense (90 rushing, 273 passing) but most of those yards were against the Packers slugs on D.

Linebacker Nic Harris led the way for the Bills’ defense in this game with 9 tackles.  The Bills’ defense played decent after Aaron Rodgers left the game for the Pack.  The Packers finished up with 292 total yards on offense (108 rushing, 184 passing) in this game.

The Bills looked like a different team in the second preseason game.  Trent Edwards was sharp in this game as he completed all 10 of his pass attempts for 79 yards.  Ryan Fitzpatrick followed Edwards in the game and he was very sharp completing 13 of 16 passes for 143 yards.  Gibran Hamdan had a so-so game completing 5 of 7 passes for 38 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  Bruce Hall led the Bills in rushing yards in this game with 21 yards on 9 carries (2.3 ypc) with 1 TD run.  TE Jonathan Stupar led the way in the passing game for the Bills with 56 yards receiving on 6 catches (9.3 avg).  The Bills rolled up 375 yards of total offense (123 rushing, 252 passing) in this game which was outstanding.

CB Reggie Corner (5 tackles) and CB Ellis Lankster (2 tackles, 2 interceptions) led a impressive showing for the Bills’ defense.  The Bears only rushed for 57 yards in this game and passed for 168 yards.  This was a good showing for the Bills who hope to build on this effort.

Tennessee Titans 21, Buffalo Bills 18

Don’t let the score fool you the Bills didn’t look good in the Hall of Fame Game last night.  They were down 21-6 before a rally was conducted by a lot of guys who will be cut before the season opens.  Trent Edwards didn’t let the football hit the turf once in this game as he was 3 for 4 passing for 34 yards but he had a good drive ended by a Michael Griffin interception.  Ryan Fitzgerald followed Edwards and he completed 6 of 11 passes for 61 yards.  As sad as this is, Gibran Hamdan played the best of the QBs last night as he completed 11 of 13 passes for 89 yards.  The running game was pretty non-existent last night except for Xavier Omon.  Omon led the Bills last night with 36 yards rushing on 11 carries (3.3 ypc).  He also added 25 yards receiving on 3 grabs (8.3 avg).  Terrell Owens looked good in his brief action on the field catching 2 passes for 27 yards.  TE Jonathan Stuper led the Bills in receiving yards in the game last night with 36 yards on 4 grabs.  WR Felton Spencer led the Bills in receptions last night with 5 for 34 yards.  Overall, the Bills offense looked real rusty as they only rushed for 56 yards (24 carries) and they threw for 191 yards.

The defense was outstanding last night against the Titans’ vaunted running game holding them to 33 yards rushing on 30 carries (1.1 ypc).  The special teams though was another story as Titans’ rookie punter A.J. Trapasso scored a T.D. in the first quarter on a 40-yard run on a fake punt.  DE Chris Ellis led the way for the Bills last night with six tackles.  CB Reggie Corner had a interception (off Titans’ QB Alex Mortensen) that he returned 26 yards for a TD.  Fellow corner Leodis McKelvin also had a pickoff (Vince Young).

This game showed that the Bills have a lot to work on before the regular season opens in September.

The Buffalo Bills played very well on defense in this game but not quite good enough to win it.  Linebacker Blake Costanzo led the way for the Bills’ defense in this game with 8 tackles.  DE Copeland Bryan (6 tackles, sack) and CB Ashton Youboty (5 tackles, interception) each also had productive games for the Bills.  The Lions only finished up with 80 yards rushing on 27 carries (3.0 ypc) and they also completed 13 of 22 passes for 104 yards.  The defense played good enough that the Bills should have won this game but the offense played awful.

Third string QB Gibran Hamdan played a lot in this football game and he didn’t show a whole lot.  He completed 18 of 26 passes for 158 yards.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 29 yards (14.5 ypc) but he was also tackled in the end zone for a safety.  Rookie RB Xavier Omon led the Bills in rushing in this game as he had 32 yards on 12 carries (2.7 ypc).  Bruce Hall pitched in with 30 yards rushing on 8 carries (3.8 ypc).  Dwayne Wright had a night to forget against the Lions with 11 yards rushing on 8 carries (1.4 ypc).  Wright also was tackled for a safety in the end zone and he also lost a fumble.  WR Steve Johnson led the Bills in this game with 8 grabs for 74 yards (9.2 avg).  Fellow WR Felton Huggins also had a decent game with 5 catches for 56 yards (11.2 avg).  The Bills finished up with 102 yards rushing on 30 carries (3.4 ypc) in this game and they also completed 18 of 26 passes for 126 yards.  The Bills finished up the preseason with a so-so 2-2 record.

Buffalo Bills 24, Indianapolis Colts 7

The Bills dominated this football game as they had possession for the football for a absolutely stunning 42:54 of this game.  J.P. Losman got the start for a injured Trent Edwards and he was very effective completing 13 of 19 passes for 108 yards.  He also carried the football 1 time for 10 yards.  Gibran Hamdan followed Losman in the game as he completed 5 of 8 passes for 35 yards.  Matt Baker finished up the game completing 2 of 2 passes for 21 yards.  Fred Jackson led the way for the Bills in the running game with 30 yards on 7 carries (4.3 ypc).  Dwayne Wright was terrible in this game carrying the ball 13 times for only 18 yards (1.4 ypc).  Rookie RB Xavier Omon pitched in with 17 yards rushing on 6 carries (2.8 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Lee Evans led the way in the passing game for the Bills with 44 yards on 5 catches (8.8 avg).  The Bills finished up with 100 yards rushing on 42 carries (2.4 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 29 passes for 157 yards.

CB Terrence McGee had a game changing play against the Colts when he returned a Joseph Addai fumble 68 yards for a TD.  CBs Reggie Corner, Ashton Youboty, S John Wendling and linebacker Keith Ellison each picked off a pass in this football game.  The Colts finished up with only 32 yards rushing on 12 carries (2.7 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 27 passes for 201 yards.  This was a impressive all around effort by the Bills.

The Buffalo Bills try to avoid a controversy at QB

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,The Pre Season by admin on Saturday 16 August 2008 at 10:12 pm

The Buffalo Bills have been saying all offseason that Trent Edwards will be the starting QB but he will have to play better than Losman during the preseason to cement his role.  Edwards has completed 10 of 16 (62.5%) passes for 122 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 interceptions (125.5 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 1 time for 22 yards during the preseason.  J.P. Losman has also been pretty effective this preseason completing 11 of 14 passes (78.6%) for 92 yards with 1 TD and 0 interceptions (117.9 QB Rating) during the preseason.  He also has carried the ball 1 time for 2 yards.  It’s important that J.P. Losman stays sharp if he is indeed the #2 QB this season because Edwards is not the most reliable player around as he gets injured quite often.  Still, the Bills are in good shape because they have two decent young QBs and not many teams in the NFL can say that.

The Bills unleashed a physical but conservative offense last night in Toronto against the Steelers.  Trent Edwards responded to J.P. Losman’s threat to his starting job by completing 9 of 11 passes for 104 yards including two TD passes to TE Robert Royal (7 and 13 yards).  Edwards also had a carry for 22 yards last night against the supposed rugged Steelers’ defense.  J.P. Losman completed 4 of 5 passes for 19 yards last night.  Matt Baker finished up the game completing 1 of 2 passes for 3 yards.  Rookie RB Xavier Omon was very impressive last night as he carried the football 10 times for 44 yards (4.4 ypc).  Dwayne Wright also had a decent game rushing for 31 yards on 7 carries (4.4 ypc).  Marshawn Lynch pitched in with a solid 25 yards on 5 carries (5.0 ypc) last night.  Lee Evans led Bills’ receivers with 3 catches for 55 yards (18.3 avg) against the Steelers.  TE Robert Royal had a huge game last night grabbing 2 passes for 20 yards and they were both TDs (13 and 7 yards).  The Bills finished up this game with a very impressive 159 yards rushing on 31 carries (5.1 ypc) and they were also effective throwing the ball completing 14 of 18 passed for 104 yards.

The Bills still had some issues on defense that need corrected before the season starts in September.  CB Ashton Youboty led the way for the Bills last night with 4 tackles and 1 sack.  Rookie CB Leodis McKelvin had a game to remember despite only making 2 tackles.  He returned 4 kickoffs for 149 yards (37.3 avg) including a 95-yarder for a TD that capped the scoring night for the Bills.  The Steelers finished up with 108 yards rushing on 22 carries (4.9 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 37 passes for 230 yards.

Washington Redskins 17, Buffalo Bills 14

The Buffalo Bills did not look too good in Washington last night.  Neither the offense or the defense played well and it’s a miracle that the game was even this close.  Trent Edwards made a brief, awful appearance completing 1 of 5 passes for 18 yards.  J.P. Losman looked pretty darn good for the Bills last night completing 7 of 9 passes for 73 yards including a 16-yard TD strike to rookie WR James Hardy.  Gibran Hamden look so-so last night completing 7 of 13 passes for 65 yards.  Matt Baker made a very brief appearance connecting on 2 of 3 passes for 25 yards.  Dwayne Wright led the Bills with 20 yards rushing last night on 6 carries (3.2 ypc) but he lost a fumble.  Rookie RB Xavier Omon also lost a fumble as he carried the ball 5 times for 16 yards (3.2 ypc).  Fred Jackson pitched in with 16 yards rushing on 5 carries (3.2 ypc) last night.  Roscoe Parrish led all Bills’ receivers with 50 yards on 3 grabs (16.7 avg) last night.  The Bills have a lot to work on offensively as they didn’t look good doing anything last night.  The Bills rushed for 67 yards on 21 carries (3.2 ypc) last night. They also completed 17 of 30 passes for 173 yards against the Redskins.

The defense didn’t play too well despite holding the Redskins to only 17 points.  Safety John Wendling led the way for the Bills last night with 10 tackles.  CB Ashton Youboty also had a solid game with 8 tackles and a interception.  Linebacker John DiGiorgio pitched in with 6 tackles and a sack last night for the Bills.  The Redskins finished up with 155 yards rushing on 31 carries (5.0 ypc) and that just won’t get it done for the Bills.  The Redskins also completed 20 of 32 passes for 186 yards as they controlled the football for 33:17 last night.  The Bills have a lot of work to do before September rolls around.
