The offense was inept for the Bills last night and it cost them the game.  Ryan Fitzpatrick made a brief appearance last night as he completed 2 of 5 passes for -1 yard.  Tyler Thigpen followed him in the game and he wasn’t too swift either as he completed 12 of 21 passes for 92 yards without a TD pass or INT.  Levi Brown finished this game at QB as he completed 5 of 9 passes for 83 yards without a TD pass or INT.  Brown also carried the ball 2 times for 15 yards (7.5 ypc) in this game.  C.J. Spiller led the way for the Bills with 29 yards rushing on 2 carries (14.5 ypc) against the Lions.  Bruce Hall (4 carries, 25 yards, TD) and Johnny White (14 carries, 21 yards, 1.5 ypc) also got some work in for the Bills in the running game.  WR Craig Davis (6 rec, 38 yards) and TE Mike Caussin (4 rec, 32 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Bills.  The Bills finished up with 90 yards rushing on 22 carrries (4.1 ypc) and they also completed 19 of 35 passes (54.3%) for 127 yards in this game.

The defense didn’t give up a lot of points (16) but they were pushed around in the running game by the Lions.  LBs Kelvin Sheppard (6 tackles, 1 pass defensed) and Antonio Coleman (5 tackles, 4 tackles for a loss) led the way for the Bills’ D in this game.  CB Reggie Corner pitched in with 4 tackles and 3 passes defensed in this game.  The Lions finished up with 176 yards rushing on 34 carries (5.2 ypc) and they also completed 13 of 23 passes (56.5%) for 142 yards.  The Bills have finished the preseason with a 1-3 record.

Tyler Thigpen has been lousy so far this preseason for the Buffalo Bills

27-year old backup QB Tyler Thigpen has been awful so far in the preseason.  He has played in all three preseason games for the Bills and he has completed 24 of 54 passes (44.4%) for 224 yards with 2 TD passes and 2 INTs (53.3 QB Rating).  Thigpen has also carried the ball 7 times for 28 yards (4.0 ypc) so far in the preseason.  The Bills signed Thigpen after the lockout to be the Bills’ unquestioned #2 QB and he probably still is, but they can’t feel entirely confident in him right now.

The Bills lost this game despite outplaying the Lions most of the way.  Trent Edwards made a brief, but successful, appearance in this game as he completed all four of the passes that he attempted for 66 yards.  Brian Brohm didn’t look as good as he completed 7 of 15 passes for 78 yards with 1 INT.  Brohm also carried the ball 4 times for 34 yards (8.5 ypc) tonight.  Rookie Levi Brown finished up the game by completing 10 of 18 passes for 92 yards with 1 INT.  Lions’ CB Paul Pratt returned Brown’s pickoff 102 yards for a TD.  Andre Anderson led the way on the ground for the Bills tonight with 30 yards rushing on 10 carries (3.0 ypc).  Chad Simpson pitched in with 16 yards rushing on 8 carries (2.0 ypc) with 1 TD run.  WRs Chad Jackson (5 rec, 59 yards) and Lee Evans (1 rec, 50 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Bills tonight.  The Bills finished up with 97 yards rushing (2.7 ypc) and 216 yards passing as they had possession of the ball for 38:24.

Joique Bell is opening some eyes for the Buffalo Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,The Pre Season by admin on Thursday 26 August 2010 at 2:07 pm

24-year old undrafted rookie RB Joique Bell out of tiny Wayne State (Michigan) has really opened some eyes around the league.  He has played in both pre-season games for the Bills and he has rushed for 132 yards on 16 carries (8.3 ypc) with 2 TD runs.  He has also caught 3 passes for 15 yards (5.0 avg) this year.  Bell might have a hard time making the Bills with C.J. Spiller, Marshawn Lynch, Fred Jackson and Chad Simpson ahead of him on the depth chart.  But, even if Bell doesn’t make the Bills some team will give him a chance as long as he finishes the pre-season strong.
