The Buffalo Bills sign QB Brian Brohm

Blogged under Big Bills News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Bills Chatter by admin on Thursday 19 November 2009 at 8:55 am

The Bills have signed 24-year old QB Brian Brohm off the Packers’ practice squad.  Brohm was a second round pick (#56 overall) of the Packers just two years ago so they thought he was pretty talented at one point.  With the situation the Bills have at QB it’s not impossible for Brohm to get on the playing field late this year.  This was a good low risk/high reward signing for the Bills.

UPDATE:  The Bills have released QB Gibran Hamdan to make room on the active roster for Brian Brohm.  This isn’t much of a loss for the Bills as Hamdan has not played in a regular season game at this point in his career.

The Buffalo Bills sign TE Joe Klopfenstein

Blogged under Big Bills News,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General Bills Chatter by admin on Wednesday 18 November 2009 at 1:41 pm

The Bills have signed 26-year old TE Joe Klopfenstein.  Klopfenstein is a big guy at 6’5″, 262 pounds who helps more in the running game than the passing game.  He played in all 16 games for the Rams last season and he caught 11 passes for 123 yards (11.2 avg).  Klopfenstein has now played in 48 games in his NFL career and he has caught 33 passes for 386 yards (11.7 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Klopenstein is about as good as the guy he is replacing (Derek Fine) so the Bills shouldn’t see any dropoff in production out of the TE slot.

UPDATE:  The Bills have cut Klopfenstein.  He didn’t even get on the field for the Bills proving that he wasn’t even worth the time to sign him.

The Buffalo Bills lose Derek Fine for the year

Blogged under Big Bills News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 18 November 2009 at 1:38 pm

The Bills have lost 26-year old TE Derek Fine for the rest of the season due to a knee injury.  Fine played in 8 games for the Bills this year and he caught 9 passes for 64 yards (7.1 avg) and he also made 3 tackles.  Fine has now played in 18 games in his two years with the Bills and he has caught 19 passes for 158 yards (8.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  He also has 4 tackles.  The Bills will miss Fine who also helps on special teams as well as offense.

The Buffalo Bills lose LT Demetrius Bell for a couple of weeks

Blogged under Big Bills News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,Injury Reports by admin on Tuesday 17 November 2009 at 10:09 pm

The Bills will be without starting left tackle Demetrius Bell for a couple of weeks due to a knee injury.  Bell has played in 8 games (all starts) for the Bills this season.  30-year old Kirk Chambers will replace Bell in the starting lineup for the Bills.  He has played in 7 games (2 starts) for the Bills this year.  Ryan Fitzpatrick better have eyes in the back of his head as Chambers has been a back up most of his career.

The Buffalo Bills fire Dick Jauron

Blogged under Big Bills News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter by admin on Tuesday 17 November 2009 at 10:06 pm

The Bills have finally decided to fire Dick Jauron.  The Bills had no direction this season as they were 3-6 on the year.  They had no offense averaging 15.6 points per game this year and they weren’t a whole lot better on defense allowing 23.3 points per game.  Jauron compiled a 24-33 record (42.1%) in 4 years calling the shots for the Bills.  Defensive co-ordinator Perry Fewell will replace Jauron on a interim basis.  It will be interesting to see how the Bills respond to Fewell who has no head coaching experience in his career.  Fewell can’t do much worse then Jauron did so it makes a lot of sense for the Bills to give him a chance.

The Buffalo Bills are going back to Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB

Blogged under Big Bills News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter by admin on Tuesday 17 November 2009 at 7:57 pm

The Bills are going back to Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starting QB this week.  He has played in 4 games this season and he has completed 38 of 77 passes (49.4%) for 362 yards with 2 TD passes and 4 INTs (49.8 QB Rating).  Fitzpatrick has also carried the ball 14 times for 30 yards (2.1 ypc) so far this year.  Trent Edwards no longer appears to be the Bills’ QB of the future or the present anymore.  He has played in 7 games this season and he has completed 109 of 181 passes (60.2%) for 1,170 yards with 6 TD passes and 7 INTs (74.1 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 14 times for 106 yards (7.6 ypc) this season.  The Bills will likely have to blow up the QB position in the off-season and start all over as neither Edwards or Fitzpatrick appear to be starting QBs at the NFL level.

Tennessee Titans 41, Buffalo Bills 17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Bills Chatter by admin on Sunday 15 November 2009 at 7:38 pm

The Bills were tied 17-17 heading into the 4th quarter today before they imploded especially on offense.  Trent Edwards completed 18 of 28 passes for 185 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT which was returned for a TD in the 4th quarter by the Titans.  That pickoff led to Edwards getting replaced in the game by Ryan Fitzpatrick who was much, much worse for the Bills.  He completed 2 of 7 passes for 6 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT which was also returned for a TD in the 4th quarter by the Titans.  The best pass thrown in this game was by RB Fred Jackson as it went for a 27-yard TD to WR Lee Evans.  Fred Jackson led the way on the ground too for the Bills with 48 yards rushing on 8 carries (6.0 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 23 yards (7.7 avg).  Marshawn Lynch pitched in with 37 yards rushing on 9 carries (4.1 ypc) in this game and he also caught 4 passes for 18 yards (4.5 avg).  Terrell Owens led the way in the air for the Bills today with 85 yards on 3 catches (28.3 avg).  Lee Evans also had a huge game for the Bills today with 4 catches for 50 yards (12.5 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  The Bills finished up with 296 total yards of offense in this game (89 rushing, 207 passing).

LB Paul Poslusny (12 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) and safety Bryan Scott (9 tackles) led the way for the Bills’ defense today.  The Titans finished up with 378 total yards on offense (168 rushing, 210 passing) today.  The Bills are now 3-6 on the year.

The Buffalo Bills release RB Xavier Omon

Blogged under Big Bills News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter by admin on Saturday 14 November 2009 at 1:50 am

The Bills have released running back Xavier Omon.  The 24-year old Omon carried the ball 5 times for 22 yards (4.4 ypc) and he also returned 1 kickoff for 26 yards this season for the Bills.  He finished up his career with the Bills having played in 7 games in two years carrying the ball 11 times for 27 yards (2.5 ypc).  The Bills won’t miss him at all either this year or in the future.

Buffalo Bills vs. Tennessee Titans

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 13 November 2009 at 10:45 pm

Both of these teams are playing better as of late.  The Bills have won two of their last three games while the Titans have won their last two games after starting the season 0-6.  The Bills will turn back to QB Trent Edwards for this season as he returns from a concussion.  Edwards’ return will allow the Bills to possibly attack the Titans’ weakness on defense which is the secondary.  The Titans are allowing 278.4 yards passing per game this season and opposing QBs have a 102.8 rating against them.  But the Bills won’t forget about running the ball with Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson against a Titans’ D that is allowing 111.9 yards rushing per game and 4.4 yards per carry.

This is a perfect match up for Vince Young and the Titans.  The Bills are allowing 173.6 yards rushing per game and 5.1 yards per carry so far this season.  With that in mind look for Charles Johnson (959 yards rushing, 6.7 ypc, 6TDs), LenDale White and Vince Young to have a lot of room to run the ball.  The Titans must control this game on the ground as Vince Young will likely want to steer clear of passing against the Bills too much as they already have 15 interceptions this season including 7 by rookie safety Jairus Byrd.

PREDICTION:  TITANS 27, BILLS 20

Marshawn Lynch just isn’t cutting it so far this season for the Buffalo Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,Need to step up by admin on Monday 9 November 2009 at 9:11 am

Marshawn Lynch was suspended at the start of this season by the NFL and he has been very rusty since his return to action.  Lynch has carried the ball 70 times for 217 yards (3.1 ypc) with 1 TD run so far this season.  He has also caught 17 passes for 123 yards (7.2 avg) so far.  The shame in the Bills’ need to play Lynch is that back up Fred Jackson is clearly outplaying him this season.  Jackson has carried the ball 112 times for 445 yards (4.0 ypc) and he has also caught 20 passes for 177 yards (8.9 avg) with a TD grab.  In an effort not to waste Jackson’s ability they now have him returning kickoffs and punts and he is doing a great job for them.  He has returned 11 kickoffs for 301 yards (27.4 avg) and he has also returned 4 punts for 44 yards (11.0 avg) this season.  Jackson deserves to start at running back for the Bills because it appears that he is just better than Marshawn Lynch.  But, Lynch was a first round pick so the Bills feel the need to justify that pick even if it means losing football games.
