Houston Texans vs. Buffalo Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 30 October 2009 at 10:12 am

The Houston Texans are coming into Buffalo as a fine tuned machine on offense.  If it is indeed windy in Buffalo then the Texans will keep the passing game to the short stuff and run the ball with Steve Slaton.  Slaton is not having a good season but the Bills’ D has given up 172.4 yards rushing per game and 5.2 yards per carry so he should have his best game of the year.  With Andre Johnson gimpy for this game if he plays, look for Matt Schaub to focus on getting the football to Owen Daniels, Kevin Walter and Steve Slaton out of the backfield.  Schaub had better be careful though as the Bills have 13 interceptions already this season.

The Bills will likely come out running the ball with Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson in an attempt to hog the football.  The Texans are allowing 115.6 yards rushing per game and 4.7 yards per carry so the Bills should have some success on the ground.  While Ryan Fitzpatrick has been getting the ball to Lee Evans he is far from perfect hitting only 44.7% of his passes this season.  If it is windy in Buffalo I just don’t see the Bills putting the ball up much as Fitzgerald’s arm is very weak.

PREDICTION:  TEXANS 20, BILLS 17

Finally, the Buffalo Bills are starting to get the ball to Lee Evans

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,Steppin Up by admin on Friday 30 October 2009 at 10:11 am

With Trent Edwards under center he was mostly throwing short passes to the TEs and the RBs.  I don’t blame him really as he didn’t have much time to throw the ball as he has been sacked 19 times this year.  Ryan Fitzpatrick has a lot more mobility than Edwards does and that buys him the time to get the ball downfield to the WRs.  Lee Evans seems to have benefitted the most out of having Fitzpatrick under center.  He has now caught 21 passes for 302 yards (14.4 avg) with 3 TD grabs this season.  Evans leads the Bills in catches, receiving yards and receiving TDs this season.  Pretty soon though teams will likely start doubling him and leaving Terrell Owens in single coverage so we will see how well Evans adjusts to that.

Jairus Byrd is really stepping up big time for the Buffalo Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,Steppin Up,The Draft Report by admin on Monday 26 October 2009 at 2:58 pm

23-year old rookie CB/S Jairus Byrd has been outstanding for the Bills so far this season.  With a rash of injuries to the secondary the Bills needed someone to step up and Byrd has been that guy.  He has played in 7 games for the Bills this season and he has 27 tackles, he has defensed 7 passes and he has 5 interceptions (91 return yards) so far this year.  Byrd was a second round pick this season by the Bills out of Oregon and he might not return to the bench even when the backs ahead of him get healthy.  This looks like an excellent pick for the Bills last April.

Buffalo Bills 20, Carolina Panthers 9

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Bills Chatter by admin on Monday 26 October 2009 at 11:41 am

The Buffalo Bills forced the Panthers into some big time mistakes and that covered for another lackluster effort by the offense.  Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 11 of 22 passes for 123 yards with 1 TD pass.  He also carried the ball 7 times for 10 yards (1.4 ypc) in this game.  Marshawn Lynch was the leading rusher for the Bills in this game with 40 yards rushing on 17 carries (2.4 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Lee Evans had his best game of the season for the Bills with 5 grabs for 75 yards (15.0 avg) with a TD.  The Bills finished up with only 167 total yards in this game as they only had the ball for 25:20 of this game.

The defense was in bend but don’t break mode for the Bills as they only gave up 7 points on offense (the Panthers got a safety on D).  Linebacker Paul Poslusny led the way for the Bills with 11 tackles in this game.  Safety George Wilson was also very effective finishing with 10 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 pass defensed and 1 interception.  S/CB Jairus Byrd was a game changer for the Bills yesterday as he finished up with 2 tackles, 2 passes defensed and he picked off two passes.  The Panthers finished up with 425 total yards on offense (116 rushing, 309 passing) in this game.  The Bills somehow improve to 3-4 on the season.

Buffalo Bills vs. Carolina Panthers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 23 October 2009 at 4:46 pm

Both of these teams got to be feeling a little bit better about themselves lately.  The 2-4 Bills beat the Jets 16-13 last week while the 2-3 Panthers outlasted the Bucs 28-21 for their second win in a row.  This game will likely be the fastest NFL game of the day as both teams will try to run the football.  The Panthers are allowing 149.2 yards rushing per game and 5.0 yards per carry so look for the Bills to attack them early and often with Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch.  The secret weapon for the Bills in this game could very well be the feet of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick.  With his weak arm he can’t throw a lick but he is a good running QB.  The Panthers only give up 156.8 yards passing per game this season but opposing QBs have a rating of 92.8 so there is success to be had in the passing game for the Bills if they can trust the offensive line (19 sacks) to give Fitzpatrick time to throw the ball.  The Bills would be smart to throw the ball early in this game to try to get a lead and protect the defense.

It’s no mystery to what the Panthers will do on offense in this football game.  The Bills are allowing 181.8 yards rushing per game and 5.3 yards per carry this season and that has to have DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart foaming at the mouth.  The Bills should put 8 or 9 guys in the box and dare Jake Delhomme to beat them with a pass.  Still, Steve Smith always has potential to bust out and have a monster game so the Bills will have to be careful with him.

PREDICTION:  PANTHERS 20, BILLS 17

Fred Jackson is a busy body for the Buffalo Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,Steppin Up by admin on Friday 23 October 2009 at 4:36 pm

Fred Jackson is the leading rusher (415 yards) and he has caught the most passes (20) on the Bills this season.  He has a combined 592 yards rushing (415) and receiving (177) this season for an average of 98.7 yards per game.  But with Marshawn Lynch back from his suspension the Bills were looking for other ways to get Jackson the ball.  He has not supplanted Roscoe Parrish as both the kickoff and punt returner for the time being.  Parrish fumbled away his starting job.  While Jackson doesn’t have the homerun ability of Parrish on returns he is dependable at catching the football.   He has returned 5 kickoffs for 90 yards (18.0 avg) and 1 punt for 27 yards so far this season.  Jackson is turning himself into one of the best players on the Bills this season and the team is smart for finding new ways to get him the football.

Trent Edwards is likely out of the game this weekend against the Panthers

Blogged under Big Bills News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,Injury Reports by admin on Wednesday 21 October 2009 at 9:23 pm

Trent Edwards will likely miss this weekend’s game with the Carolina Panthers do to a concussion he suffered last week against the Jets.  I know that some Bills’ fans were actually happy when Edwards got hurt but you won’t be after this weekend.  Edwards has completed 91 of 153 passes (59.5%) for 985 yards with 5 TD passes and 6 interceptions (73.0 QB Rating).  But, the Bills’ offense won’t be able to stretch the field with Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB because of his very weak throwing arm.  Fitzgerald has completed 10 of 25 passes (40%) for 116 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT (51.4 QB Rating).  He does nothing on the football field better than Trent Edwards so look for the Bills to rely on the running game this weekend against the Panthers.

Buffalo Bills 16, New York Jets 13 in OT

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps,General Bills Chatter by admin on Monday 19 October 2009 at 1:12 pm
What an amazing win for the Buffalo Bills yesterday at the Meadowlands.  Things were looking good for the Bills at the start of the game as Trent Edwards completed his first 5 passes of the game for 43 yards.  But then he left the game with a concussion forcing Ryan Fitzpatrick into the game and he did not play that well.   He completed 10 of 25 passes for 116 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  He also carried the ball 7 times for 20 yards (2.9 ypc) yesterday.  Marshawn Lynch was busy in this game as he carried the ball 19 times for 61 yards (3.2 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 11 yards.  Fred Jackson pitched in with 52 yards rushing on 15 carries (3.5 ypc) in this game.  Lee Evans led the way in the passing game for the Bills with 4 grabs for 68 yards and a TD.  Terrell Owens had another bad game catching only 3 passes for 13 and he also carried the ball 1 time for 9 yards.  The Bills did win the battle of time of ball possession in this game 39:03 to 33:13 and that might have helped them win this game.  The Bills finished up with only 296 total yards on offense (142 rushing, 154 passing) in this game.
The defense was horrible against the running game allowing the Jets to rush for 318 yards on 40 carries (8.0 ypc) but they were awesome against the pass as the Jets only completed 10 of 30 passes for 96 yards and the Bills picked off Mark Sanchez 5 times!  DE Chris Kelsay was the leader in tackles for the Bills in this game with 12 tackles.  Linebcacker Keith Ellison also had 12 tackles and he also had 1 tackle for a loss and he defensed 1 pass.  Safety George Wilson was also effective in this game with 11 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 interception and he defensed 1 pass.  Linebacker Paul Poslusny came back from injury in this game and he definately helped the Bills with 9 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 pass defensed, a QB hit and a interception.  DBs Jairus Byrd, Reggie Corner and John Wendling all added to the defense with pickoffs.  The Jets finished up with 414 yards on offense in this game (318 rushing, 96 passing).  The Bills improved to 2-4 on the season with this huge road win which might have saved head coach Dick Jauron for a few weeks.

Buffalo Bills vs. New York Jets

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 16 October 2009 at 7:59 pm

The Buffalo Bills have lost three games in a row as they have been outscored 71-20 in those games.  The Jets are also on a losing streak but they have not been getting drilled.  The Bills need to try to keep the ball on the ground with Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch against the Jets who got pushed around by the Dolphins last week.  Because if the Bills don’t establish a running game then the Jets will probably blitz Trent Edwards a lot as he has already been sacked 18 times this season.  If Edwards gets time to throw the ball he could have some success getting the ball downfield to Lee Evans and Terrell Owens in this game.

The Jets have to be worried about Mark Sanchez who has really looked like the rookie that he is the last two weeks.  To protect him this week look for the Jets to run the football a lot with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington against a Bills’ D that is allowing 154.6 yards rushing per game and 4.7 yards per carry.  After the Jets establish the running game look for Sanchez to use some play action passes to get the ball deep to Braylon Edwards and David Clowney.

PREDICTION:  JETS 20, BILLS 6

The Buffalo Bills’ front office needs to send Dick Jauron packing!

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General Bills Chatter,Need to step up by admin on Friday 16 October 2009 at 7:47 pm

The Buffalo Bills are sinking like a rock again this season after losing 6-3 at home last Sunday to the hapless Cleveland Browns.  The Bills are 1-4 on the season as they have been outscored 116-77.  Head Coach Dick Jauron deserves a lot of the blame for this season as he is flat out a terrible football coach!  If you don’t believe me check out Jauron 10-year NFL record of 58-80 (42%) during the regular season.  He also is 0-1 in the playoffs during the only season in which his team finished with a winning record!  The Bills are 22-31 in his four seasons in charge and that is pathetic.  The Bills need to fire him right now!
