Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General Bills Chatter by admin on Saturday 22 November 2008 at 6:55 am

This will be a interesting football game as the Bills have lost their last 4 games while the Chiefs have played their best football of the season the last four weeks (all still losses).  The Bills will likely try to run the ball a lot this week with Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson against a Chiefs’ defense that is allowing 165.4 yards rushing per game and 5.1 yards per carry.  Trent Edwards should have time to throw the ball this week against a Chiefs’ defense that only has six sacks this season.  The Chiefs also allow 237.1 yards passing per game this season so look for Lee Evans to make a few huge plays in this football game.

The Chiefs should get a lot of points tomorrow so they have a chance to win this football game.  Still, they will have to outplay the Bills to win to even out the fact that Herman Edwards is the coach of the Chiefs.  The Chiefs have turned into a passing team with the stunning emergence of Tyler Thigpen at QB.  Thigpen should have time to throw the ball this week so Dwyane Bowe, Tony Gonzalez and Mark Bradley all should have decent games against a Bills’ defense that is allowing 202.4 yards passing per game.  This could also be the game that Larry Johnson finally gets going as the Bills are allowing 109.6 yards rushing per game and 3.9 ypc this season.

PREDICTION:  KANSAS CITY CHIEFS 21, BUFFALO BILLS 20

The Buffalo Bills sign LB Teddy Lehman

The Bills have signed 26-year old veteran linebacker Teddy Lehman to add depth and help out on special teams.  Lehman has played in 41 games (16 starts) in his NFL career and he has made 147 tackles, had 1 sack, defensed 3 passes and has 2 interceptions.  This was a solid move for the Bills to find a decent veteran player sitting at home at this point of the season.

The Buffalo Bills will be without three key defenders for a while

The Bills will be without safety Donte Whitner, DE Aaron Schobel and CB Ashton Youboty for a while.  Whitner has a separated shoulder and he will be out indefinately.  Whitner has played in 8 games this season for the Bills and he has 37 tackles, 1 sack and he has defensed 1 pass.  Whitner will be replaced in the starting lineup by Bryan Scott.  Scott has played in 8 games this season for the Bills and he has 21 tackles and a sack.  Aaron Schobel will miss the next 2-4 weeks with foot and bone bruise injuries.  He has played in 5 games for the Bills this season and he has made 19 tackles, had 1 sack and he has defensed 1 pass.  The most serious injury is the one to CB Ashton Youboty who will miss the remainder of the 2008 season as he has a bad case of plantar faciitis.  He has played in 5 games for the Bills this season and he has made 20 tackles, had 1 interception and he defended 2 passes.  These three injuries will really hurt the pass defense of the Bills.

The Buffalo Bills lose Josh Reed indefinately

The Bills have lost WR Josh Reed indefinately due to Achilles and ankle injuries.  He has played in 7 games for the Bills this season and he has caught 26 passes for 288 yards (11.1 avg).  The Bills will need rookie WR James Hardy to step up in the possession role while Reed is out.

New York Jets 26, Buffalo Bills 17

The Bills never had any balance on offense in this game and it hurt them in the end as Trent Edwards had too much pressure on him.  The Bills only rushed for 30 yards on 17 carries (1.8 ypc) and that allowed the Jets to let the dogs loose as they sacked Trent Edwards 5 times in this game.  Edwards finished up completing 24 of 35 passes for 289 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 interceptions (one was returned 92-yards for a TD by the Jets’ Abram Elam.  Overall, the defense played a solid game for the Bills allowing only 297 total yards of offense and they scored a TD on a 42-yard interception return by Jabari Greer.  This loss hurts the Bills but they are still tied for first place in the AFC East with the Patriots and Jets at 5-3.
