The Bills had a nightmare trip to Arizona last week as the Cardinals beat them up both physically and on the scoreboard.  Trent Edwards completed all three of his pass attempts last week before getting knocked out of the game due to a concussion.  J.P. Losman replaced him and he was so-so completing 15 of 21 passes for 220 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  He also scored a TD on a 2-yard run but he also lost two fumbles.  Marshawn Lynch was basically taken out of the gameplan in the second half of the game when the Bills were trying to play catch-up ball as he rushed for 55 yards on 13 carries (4.2 ypc).  Lee Evans caught only 2 passes but he still had 100 yards receiving as one of his catches was good for a 87-yard TD from J.P. Losman.  He also carried the ball 1 time for 22 yards.  The Bills’ defense had big time issues trying to stop the Cardinals’ offense as they rolled up 373 total yards on them.  Still, the Bills are sitting atop the AFC East with a 4-1 record on the season.

Buffalo Bills vs. Arizona Cardinals

This should be a good football game as the surprising 4-0 Bills head to Arizona to face a Cardinals team that has won 7 of their last 9 home games.  Despite seeing Brett Favre throw six TD passes against the Cardinals last week look for the Bills to remain balanced on offense.  Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson will likely try to set the tone early with the running game.  If they can establish the running game then look for Trent Edwards to attack the Cards’ defense down the field as long as he has time to throw the ball as he has been sacked 11 times already this season and the Cardinals have 10 sacks.  Lee Evans is averaging 23.7 yards per catch this season so the Cards will likely double him and make Edwards beat them through the air with someone else.

The Cardinals also must remain somewhat balanced or the Bills will turn the dogs loose on the pass rush as Kurt Warner has already been sacked 12 times this season and the Bills have 10 sacks.  When Warner has pressure in his face he sometimes panics as was proven last week when he turned the ball over often.  The Cardinals should get Edgerrin James and rookie RB Tim Hightower the ball often on the ground early in the game to loosen up the Bills’ defense.  Warner has thrown for 1,222 yards this season already so look for him to get the football to Larry Fitzgerald and Steve Breaston often this week.

PREDICTION:  ARIZONA CARDINALS 27, BUFFALO BILLS 23

Things were looking bad after three quarters with the Rams up 14-13, but, then the lights came on for the Bills outscoring the Rams 18-0 in the 4th quarter to run away with a win.  Trent Edwards was efficient in this game completing 15 of 25 passes for 197 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  Marshawn Lynch was a busy guy in this game with 19 carries for 57 yards (3.0 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 24 yards (6.0 avg).  Fred Jackson also had a good game with 46 yards rushing on 7 carries (6.6 ypc) with a TD run.  He also caught 3 passes for 9 yards.  Lee Evans led the Bills’ in receiving yards with 88 on 2 catches (44.0 avg) one of his grabs was good for a 39-yard TD.  The Bills finished up with 111 yards rushing on 31 carries (3.6 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 25 passes for 166 yards.

Paul Poslusny led a good Bills’ effort on defense with 8 tackles.  DB Jabari Greer only had two tackles but he made the biggest play of the game for the Bills intercepting a pass and returning in 33 yards for a TD.  Greer’s TD put the Bills ahead in this game to stay at the start of the 4th quarter.  The Rams finished up with 167 yards rushing on 29 carries (5.8 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 33 passes for 213 yards.  The Bills improved to 4-0 on the season with this win.
