Buffalo Bills 19, Baltimore Ravens 14

The Bills made big plays on both sides of the football when they really needed it to prevail yesterday. Trent Edwards didn’t play that well as he completed 11 of 21 passes for 153 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT. Marshawn Lynch probably has a lot of new bruises after the game yesterday but he played pretty decent as he carried the ball 27 times for 84 yards (3.1 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 3 passes for 14 yards (4.7 avg). Finally, the Bills got the football into Lee Evans’ hands and he responded with 5 catches for 98 yards (19.6 avg). The Bills finished this game with 103 yards rushing on 33 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 11 of 21 passes for 149 yards.

The defense made big plays when they had to and that’s a huge reason for the victory over the Ravens. LBs Angelo Crowell (9 tackles) and John DiGiorgio (5 tackles, fumble recovery and 1/2 sack) led the way for the Bills defense. The Ravens rushed for 127 yards on 24 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 37 passes for 181 yards.

Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General Bills Chatter by dawgpounded on Friday 19 October 2007 at 2:51 pm
There’s some reasons why the Ravens are only favored by three points in this football game. The Ravens don’t usually bring their A-Game on the road with them. They are 1-2 on the road and they’ve been outscored 61-42 in those games. Kyle Boller wll be starting this week and he hasn’t exactly sparked the Ravens offense this season. The Bills are only 1-2 at home despite outscoring their opponents 55-54. They have lost two home games on the last play.

The Ravens will likely pound the football with an inspired Willis McGahee (525 yards rushing, 4.1 ypc) running against his old team that has a poor run defense (133.6 yards rushing per game, 4.6 ypc). The Ravens will likely try to keep the ball on the ground because Kyle Boller doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the passing game especially with TE Todd Heap likely out for the game. With that in mind the Ravens would benefit from Mark Clayton playing up to his ability on Sunday which he hasn’t yet this season. Derrick Mason (49 rec, 451 yards) and Demetrius Williams (18 rec, 267 yards) could have decent games against a Bills defense that is allowing 287.8 yards passing per game but the Ravens better  be careful with the football because the Bills have 9 interceptions so far this season.

If the Bills are going have a chance in this football game they will have to open up the offense a little bit. The Bills need to let rookie QB Trent Edwards pound the ball down the field to Lee Evans and challenge the Ravens corners which aren’t that good. It’s been a shame that the Bills are wasting the talents of Lee Evans (12 rec, 113 yards) who is by far the most talented player on the Bills’ offense. The Bills would like to run Marshawn Lynch in an attempt to control the clock but he will have his hands full against Ray Lewis and the rest of the Ravens defense which is only allowing 66.7 yards rushing per game and 2.9 yards per carry.

Both teams have big-time return men in the kicking game and this will be a big key to the game because neither team has a explosive offense. KR/PR Yamon Figurs of the Ravens has been outstanding since he moved into the starting role. He’s a little guy so the Bills will have to stay in their lanes. KR Terrence McGee and PR Roscoe Parrish are two of the most elite return men in the NFL as they can take any kick to the house.

PREDICTION: The Ravens have the better team but the Bills almost beat the Cowboys in their last game and they are way better than the Ravens. Baltimore Ravens 16, Buffalo Bills 14.

The Buffalo Bills are licking their wounds heading into the bye week

The Bills sit at 1-4 on the season but they should probably be 3-2 as they have suffered to defeats on the last play at Rich Stadium. The Bills are undermanned right now due to massive injuries….especially to the defense. They have 9 players on the Injured Reserve List including 4 starting players. That’s almost too much to overcome but the team really has played hard at home. They are 1-2 at home despte outscoring their opponents 55-54. The fans must be the difference as the Bills have been punished in their two road games (both losses) by a combined score of 64-10!

The Bills also must decide on who the starting quarterback will be when they resume play against the Ravens on October 21st. J.P. Losman is healthy enough to return but rookie Trent Edwards played decent while he was out. Losman has completed 30 of 47 passes (63.8%) for 255 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT (69.0 QB Rating) and he also has carried the ball 6 times for 51 yards (8.5 ypc). He also had somewhat of a breakout season last year so it will be interesting to see if Coach Jauron gives him his job back. Edwards has completed 55 of 79 passes (69.6%) for 507 yards with 1 TD pass and 3 INTs (75.2 QB Rating) so far this season. Regardless of who the QB is the Bills must throw the ball down the field more. They are wasting Lee Evans who only has 12 catches for 113 yards (9.4 avg) with 0 TDs this season.

Dallas Cowboys 25, Buffalo Bills 24

I’m still stunned that the Bills lost this football game. How can you lose when you return two out of five interceptions to the house for TDs and return a kickoff 103 yards for a TD? The Bills found a way. Linebacker John DiGiorgio led the way for the Bills defense with 9 tackles and an interception. CB/KR Terrence McGee also had an outstanding game as he made 7 tackles and returned a kickoff 103 yards for a TD. DE Chris Kelsey has 2 tackles and he batted a pass into the air and caught it on his way to the end zone for a TD. Safety George Wilson had 4 tackles and he also picked off a pass and returned it 25 yards for a TD. Angelo Crowell and Jabari Greer each also had an interception in this game. As good as the defense played…..they allowed 9 points in the final 24 seconds of this game to lose! The Cowboys rushed for 76 yards on 22 carries (3.5 ypc) and they completed 29 of 50 passes for 309 yards.

The offense could have helped the Bills win this game if they just had played a little bit better. Rookie QB Trent Edwards completed 23 of 31 passes for 176 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 big interception in the 4th quarter. Marshawn Lynch also found yards hard to come by as he carried the ball 20 times for 66 yards (3.3 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 32 yards (16.0 avg). WRs Roscoe Parrish (6 rec, 37 yards) and Josh Reed (5 rec, 35 yards) were the leading receivers for the Bills. The Bills finished up with 81 yards rushing on 24 carries (3.4 ypc) and they completed 23 of 31 passes for 148 yards.

The Buffalo Bills use important players as kick returners

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General Bills Chatter by dawgpounded on Saturday 6 October 2007 at 9:29 am

The Bills use WR Roscoe Parrish to return punts and cornerback Terrence McGee to return kickoffs and they both do great jobs. It’s too bad that the Bills defense is so bad because Parrish is an outstanding punt returner. He has returned 3 punts for 100 yards (33.3 avg) including one that he returned 74 yards for a TD. Parrish also has been busy on offense as he has caught 14 passes for 141 yards (10.1 avg). McGee is a game changer as both a return man and a cornerback. He has returned 13 kickoffs for 342 yards (26.3 avg) so far this season and he has made 12 tackles and picked off a pass this year already.
