The Buffalo Bills trade DT Darwin Walker to the Bears

Darwin Walker had been holding out and he said that he didn’t want to play for the Bills so they traded him the Bears. The Bills will receive an undisclosed draft pick believed to be a 5th rounder or better in the 2008 NFL Draft. This hurts the Bills as they needed an enforcer in the middle of the defense like Walker.

I just checked out NBC’s SNF site, www.sundaynightisfootballnight.com, and they have a ton of cool stuff. Wallpaper, widgets, multimedia. You can look at Buffalo food, and facts about the team. They also have Madden, Michaels and Collinsworth talking about the Bills match ups. You should go see it, because the site is great!

The Buffalo Bills are going to have a new look backfield for 2007

The Bills have let go Willis McGahee in a trade in the off season and replaced him with first round pick Marshawn Lynch. Lynch has more raw talent than McGahee had so the Bills might have a dynamic back to build their offense around. Lynch is fast enough to score from anywhere on the field on any play. Plus, Lynch is a great receiver so look for J.P. Losman to hook up with him a lot in the flat and on screen passes. Lynch will make Bills’ fans forget McGahee by the second week of the 2007 season.

Anthony “A-Train” Thomas will back up Lynch and run a lot in short yardage situations and near the goal line. Thomas doesn’t have a lot of moves but he runs hard and gives a good effort on every single carry. He played in all 16 games (2 starts) last season for the Bills and he carried the ball 107 times for 378 yards (3.5 ypc) with 2 TD runs. He also caught 22 passes for 139 yards (6.3 avg) with 0 TD catches. Thomas has adjusted well to his job as a backup running back after being a starter early in his career. Thomas has played in 76 games (41 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 1,008 times for 3,802 yards (3.8 ypc) with 23 TD runs. He also has caught 98 passes for 661 yards (6.7 avg) with 0 TD grabs.

Rookie Dwayne Wright was brought in because he’s a power runner in the mold of the A-Train. He’s a big guy that moves the pile and the Bills were lucky to get him when they did in the draft. Look for Wright to not get a lot of playing time as a rookie but he could be a key player in the running game in the future.

Shaud Williams was re-signed to compete for a backup job but he likely will have a hard time making the team. He played in only 5 games (0 starts) last year for the Bills and he carried the ball 2 times for 2 yards (1.0 ypc) with 0 TD runs. Williams has played in 25 games (0 starts) over his NFL career and he has carried the ball 89 times for 330 yards (3.7 ypc) with 2 TD runs. He also has caught 20 passes for 137 yards (6.9 avg) with 0 TD catches.

Josh Scobey was signed by the Bills after playing last season with the Seahawks. Scobey played in 12 games last season and he didn’t get a carry or catch a pass. His main contribution to the Seahawks was as a kickoff returner. He returned 17 kickoffs for 315 yards (18.5 avg) with 0 TDs last year. Look for Scobey to battle for the #4 RB spot with Shaud Williams and he will likely have an edge in the competition because of his special teams play. Scobey has played in 55 games (0 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 27 times for 89 yards (3.3 ypc) with 0 TD runs. He also has caught 19 passes for 200 yards (10.5 avg) with 0 TD grabs. Scobey has returned 181 kickoffs for 4,048 yards (22.4 avg) with 1 TD return.
