3. (92) Trent Edwards, QB

The Bills had a lot of needs and QB wasn’t one of them. But with Edwards sliding in the draft they felt that he was a great value pick. In fact, it’s quite possible that they drafted him to keep J.P. Losman from getting too comfortable as the starting QB of the future. Edwards has good size at 6′3″, 225 pounds but that hasn’t stopped him from getting injured quite often in college. That could be because he was on such an awful team at Stanford that didn’t block for him….that shouldn’t be an issue in Buffalo. Edwards has a strong arm and he’s great on shorter passes, but he doesn’t have the confidence to zip the ball in tight spots on the field. That also could be due to his teams’ lack of talent at WR in college. In 35 games (31 starts) at Stanford, Edwards completed 487 of 865 (56.3%) passes for 5,429 yards with 36 TD passes and 33 interceptions. Edwards was worth a 3rd round pick, but the Bills should have focused on their defense a little more as they have a lot of holes on that side of the ball.

Keep your eyes open. Trent Edwards is going to suprise a few people; including Buffalo’s Coaching staff, JP Losman, and the Buffalo Bills fans. Edwards, not Losman is the Bills Quarterback of the future. He is tough, gritty, smart and capable. Be glad Bills fans, like former Bills Hall of Famer James Lofton, you are going to be ecstatic to have this Cardinal on your team.

Billy, you must be a die-hard Stanford Cardinal fan. I was kind of surprised that the Bills selected Edwards when they had many more needs on the team that could have helped them for this season. What that tells me is that if J.P. Losman slips in the future that Trent Edwards might be able to wrestle the starting job from him. But that won’t likely happen in the next year ot two as the Bills like Losman.
