3. (92) Trent Edwards, QB

The Bills had a lot of needs and QB wasn’t one of them. But with Edwards sliding in the draft they felt that he was a great value pick. In fact, it’s quite possible that they drafted him to keep J.P. Losman from getting too comfortable as the starting QB of the future. Edwards has good size at 6′3″, 225 pounds but that hasn’t stopped him from getting injured quite often in college. That could be because he was on such an awful team at Stanford that didn’t block for him….that shouldn’t be an issue in Buffalo. Edwards has a strong arm and he’s great on shorter passes, but he doesn’t have the confidence to zip the ball in tight spots on the field. That also could be due to his teams’ lack of talent at WR in college. In 35 games (31 starts) at Stanford, Edwards completed 487 of 865 (56.3%) passes for 5,429 yards with 36 TD passes and 33 interceptions. Edwards was worth a 3rd round pick, but the Bills should have focused on their defense a little more as they have a lot of holes on that side of the ball.

The Buffalo Bills sign CB Jason Webster

The Bills have signed Jason Webster. If Webster is healthy he will battle for a starting job in the secondary and he can play. In 8 games last season for the Atlanta Falcons, Webster made 49 tackles, had 2 interceptions, defensed 3 passes and forced a fumble. This was a nice signing by GM Marv Levy.

2. (34) Paul Posluszny, LB

The Bills really like Posluszny as GM Marv Levy thinks he resembles former Bill Shane Conlan. Posluszny can handle either inside or outside linebacker and that will help out the Bills a lot as they will be able to start him wherever they need him. He’s big enough to handle the middle at 6′1″, 237 pounds and he’s fast enough (4.7 40 yard dash) to handle the outside. Posluszny was a very porductive player at Penn State over his college career. In 44 games (36 starts) at Penn State, he has made 372 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, had 9 sacks, broke up 10 passes and had 2 interceptions. Posluszny was a great pick by the Bills and he will be a fixture on their defense for a long, long time.

1. (12) Marshawn Lynch, RB

When the San Francisco 49ers selected Patrick Willis right in front of the Bills, it made their choice an easy one. The Bills needed a running back badly after trading away Willis McGahee in the off-season so that’s why they selected Marshawn Lynch in the first round. As long as Lynch keeps his nose clean (he’s had off-field troubles in the past) he will do a good job for the Bills as their feature back. He is a strong, fast running back (4.4 40) that can catch the football so he is a legit everydown running back and those are rare in the NFL these days. In three seasons at California, Lynch has played in 35 games (20 starts) and he has carried the football 490 times for 3,230 yards (6.6 ypc) with 29 TD runs. He also has caught 68 passes for 600 yards (8.8 avg) with 6 TD grabs. As long as he behaves on and off of the field, Lynch will quickly make Bills fans forget about Willis McGahee.

The Buffalo Bills release DT Manuel Wright

That was quick. Wright showed up to minicamp grossly overweight so the Bills decided that they didn’t want the hassle and just cut him. Wright could be nearing the end to a once promising career because of his fragile psyche.
