Bills by the numbers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Thursday 26 October 2006 at 5:44 pm

The Bills are having huge scoring problems as they only average 14.3 points per game. The Bills average 98.0 yards rushing per game and 3.7 yards per carry. The passing offense only averages 163.0 net yards passing per game, but the Bills complete 61.6% of their pass attempts.

The Bills allow 21.9 points per game. The running defense has been a little soft, as teams average 113.9 yards rushing per game and 4.1 yards per carry. The pass defense allows 200.4 net yards passing per game and 62.6% completions.

Bills drop ball and lose 28-6

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 23 October 2006 at 11:22 am

The Bills had problems holding on to the football and moving it down the field. JP Losman was the main offender again. Losman completed 16 of 25 passes for 193 yards and an INT. The bigger problem from Losman was that he lost 2 fumbles. Willis McGahee ran the ball 20 times for 59 yards (3.0 ypc) and caught 2 passes for 61 yards. WR Peerless Price caught 5 passes for 53 yards.

LB London Fletcher led the way on defense with 8 tackles and a sack. DE Aaron Schobel has 3 tackles and 2 sacks. The Bills held the Patriots to 94 yards on 27 carries (3.5 ypc). The Patriots completed 18 of 27 passes for 171 net yards passing.

The defense played well, but the offense has to start doing their part or the Bills will not get any better as a team.

Bills vs. Patriots

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 18 October 2006 at 2:47 pm
The Patriots are running away from the rest of the division and need to keep beating down the competition. The Bills are 2-4 and trying to rebound from 2 painful losses in a row.

When the Patriots have the ball, it will be no mystery what they will try to do. The Bills allow 117.2 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry, so look for the Patriots to come out running the football. RBs Laurence Maroney (332 yards rushing) and Corey Dillon (281 yards rushing) have been running behind one of the best offensvie lines in football and they should give the Bills all kinds of problems. The offensive line has also been blocking great for Tom Brady when he drops back to pass, as they have only allowed 5 sacks this season. The Patriots will probably spread the field when passing, as Brady doesn’t really have a favorite target this season. Brady will go with his best match-up when throwing the ball and will be sure to pick on Terrence McGee, who’s only 5′8″ and has been getting burned lately.

The Bills prefer to run the ball with Willis McGahee (505 yards rushing), but that will be tough against a Patriots defense that only allows 85.6 yards rushing per game and 3.6 yards per carry. The Patriots do allow alot of yards passing (222.4 yards per game), but will JP Losman (1,121 yards passing) be able to take advantage of that? Lee Evans has the speed to get deep (36 rec, 419 yards), but Losman will need protection to throw the ball down the field as the Bills have allowed 19 sacks this season.

The Patriots won the first meeting 19-17 in Foxboro, so this could be a closer game than anticipated….but I can’t pick JP Losman to beat Tom Brady in a football game. The Patriots will win a close game on a mental error by JP Losman….just like the last time they played.

Rookie safeties adjusting well to NFL

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 16 October 2006 at 6:36 pm

When the Bills decided to go with two rookies as their starting safeties, most people thought they were nuts. Donte’ Whitner and Ko Simpson have exceeded expectations so far this season. Whitner has 40 tackles and an interception. Simpson has 29 tackles, a sack and an interception. These two guys should be starters for a long time in the NFL.

Bills get out-played by Lions and lose 20-17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Sunday 15 October 2006 at 5:51 pm

If you look at the stats for this game you would think it was a blowout! Most teams with those stats would have destroyed the Bills, but this was the pitiful Lions. JP Losman completed 21 of 34 passes for 204 yards with 2 TDs and an INT.  Willis McGahee was bottled up by the Lions as he carried the ball 17 times for 66 yards (3.9 ypc). Lee Evans had a decent game catching 7 passes for 73 yards. Roscoe Parrish caught 2 passes for 48 yards and a TD. Peerless Price caught 5 passes for 33 yards.

The defense just didn’t show up for this game. Any other team would have put up 40 points with the yardage that the Lions rolled up. The Lions, who never run the ball, carried the ball 27 times for 132 yards (4.9 ypc). The Lions also had an easy time throwing the ball against the Bills. The Lions completed 24 of 36 passes for 262 net yards passing.

The Bills had to know this wasn’t their bye week!

Rookie DL out for the season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Saturday 14 October 2006 at 10:00 pm

John McCargo (a first round pick this year) was place on IR with a broken bone in his foot, which has ended his season. DT Jason Johnson has been brought up from the practice squad to replace McCargo.

Bills vs. Lions

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 12 October 2006 at 9:13 am

This game pits two struggling football teams that have trouble scoring. The Bills are only averaging 15.4 points per game and the Lions only average 17.6 points a game. The problem for both of these teams have been turnovers.

The Bills will probably come out running with Willis McGahee (439 rushing yards), but the Lions run defense has been their strength as they only allow 96.2 yards rushing per game and 3.3 yards per carry. This should be the week that Coach Jauron loosens the reins on JP Losman and let’s him throw the ball. The Lions have the worst pass defense in the NFL, and it’s not even close. The Lions only have 6 sacks this season and QBs have all day to throw the ball, even good defensive backs can’t hold coverage for 7-10 seconds. Opposing QBs have a QB rating of 115.1 against the Lions this year! Look for the Bills at some point to spread the field and throw the ball. Lee Evans (28 rec, 337 yards) should have a field day against the Lions. Look for Peerless Price or Roscoe Parrish to have a good game too.

The Lions offense has been fun to watch, because they air it out every week and probably will again against the Bills. The Lions are throwing the ball 69% of the time, even though they don’t really have great receivers. The Lions need Roy Williams (neck) to be available for this game. Williams is a tall target and has great hands (26 rec, 391 yards). Mike Furrey has played pretty well this season, and Az-Zahir Hakim looked good last week. Jon Kitna (1,306 yards passing) should have success throwing against the Bills defense which is allowing an 85.3 opposing QB rating. The area where the Bills have been weak is an area that the Lions probably wouldn’t try to exploit. The Bills allow 113.4 yards rushing per game and 4.1 yards per carry. Kevin Jones has the ability to take advantage of that weakness (261 yards rushing), but Co-ordinator Mike Martz loves the passing game.

This football game could go either way, but after watching the Lions blow that lead they had last week…..I have to go with the Bills.

Outstanding special teams giving Bills a boost

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 10 October 2006 at 10:48 am

The Bills special teams have been outstanding so far this season and have aided the Bills offense and defense with good field position. The Bills are allowing 10.9 yards per punt return, which is a little high. The Bills are holding kick-off returners to 20.1 yards per return which is pretty darn good.

Rian Lindell continues to improve as a kicker hitting 7 of 8 FGs and all 8 XPTs. Punter Brian Moorman has been outstanding averaging 44.6 yards per punt, 40.0 net yards per punt and he has placed 34.6% of his punts inside the other teams 20 yard line.

Roscoe Parrish is a fearless, fast punt returner that could take it the distance at any time. Parrish is averaging 10.6 yards per punt return so far. Explosive is the only word to describe CB Terrence McGee as a kick returner. He’s averaging 23.1 yards per kick return, but it’s only a matter of time until he takes one to the house.

The special teams unit is one of the bright spots on the Bills and really puts their offense and defense in good positions.

Bills run into a buzz saw and get pounded 40-7 by Bears

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 9 October 2006 at 5:03 pm

The Bills had been playing well so far this season, but the Bears showed them on Sunday that they have a long way to go. JP Losman took a few steps back in his development on Sunday. Losman completed 14 of 27 passes for 115 yards with 1 TD and 3 INT. Willis McGahee carried the ball 14 times for 50 yards (3.6 ypc) and caught 4 passes for 15 yards. WR Lee Evans was the lone standout on offense as he caught 9 passes for 94 yards and a TD.

The Bears totally pushed the Bills around with their offense. The Bears carried the ball 39 times for 155 yards (4.0 ypc). The Bears also completed 19 of 31 passes for 196 net yards passing.
