Ashton Youboty (3, CB)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,The Draft Report by ravenhater on Sunday 6 August 2006 at 6:13 pm

Youboty has dazzling speed (4.4 40) but he also is a little raw as a corner. He will need to be “coached up” to get to where he need to be to be an NFL starter. He doesn’t have a good feel for the game, as he gives up as many big plays as he makes.

Youboty played in 37 games for Ohio State (22 starts) and made 131 tackles, broke up 23 passes and had 5 interceptions.Â

He will probably be the nickle pack when the season opens.

Tight end is a black hole for Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Saturday 5 August 2006 at 8:58 am

If a tight end could step up for the Bills and catch a few passes it would help out both the QB (whichever one it is) and the relatively weak receiving corps….just don’t hold your breath.

Robert Royal has played a few seasons but really hasn’t done much at all. Royal has played in 35 games (29 starts) and has caught 31 passes for 249 yards (8.0 avg) and 5 TDs. He’s the #1 TE by default.

Brad Cieslak is currently #2, but even Royal has done more than he has. Cieslak has appeared in two games and hasn’t caught a pass yet.

Kevin Everett is the big hope here. Everett was a good pass-catching TE for the Miami Hurricanes two years ago. The Bills picked him in the third round last year, but he blew out his knee before playing a down.

Bills grasping at straws

Lee Evans has the ability to replace Eric Moulds as the #1 WR on the team. Evans is very fast and has good hands. Evans has played in 32 games (26 starts) and has caught 96 passes for 1,586 yards (16.5 avg) and 16 TDs. He also has 9 carries for 123 yards (13.7 ypc).

Roscoe Parrish could get a shot to start. He’s a little on the small side and might not be able to take the pounding. He has good speed. He has played in 10 games (1 start) and has caught 15 passes for 148 yards (9.9 avg) and a TD.

Josh Reed has been an underachiever with a lack of speed. He has played in 60 games (25 starts) and has caught 143 passes for 1,699 yards (11.9 avg) with 6 TDs. He also has six rushes for 34 yards.

Peerless Price is back in Buffalo after not playing well in Atlanta or Dallas. Price is on the downside of his career, just trying to hang on. Price has played in 103 games (83 starts) and has caught 347 passes for 4,811 yards (13.9 avg) and 28 TDs. He also has rushed the ball 18 times for 155 yards (8.6 ypc).

Andre Davis is a fast receiver that has bounced around alot too. He has potential to be a #3 with a good camp and pre-season. Davis has played 48 games (23 starts) and has caught 102 passes for 1,602 yards (15.7 avg) and 14 TDs. He also has rushed 9 times for 32 yards (3.6 ypc).

Sam Aiken is a long-shot to play alot at receiver. He has played 37 games (2 starts) and has caught 18 passes for 240 yards (13.3 avg) and no TDs.

Rian Lindell

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Wednesday 2 August 2006 at 5:59 pm

Lindell has been a bright light in a dark time for the Bills. Lindell pounded 10 of 13 field goals of 40+ yards last season and he may have to get used to that with the Bills offense. It might be hard for him to keep that up playing 8 games in Buffalo.

Lindell has connected on 77.6% of his field goals in his career and has averaged 6.25 points per game.

Take the Bills over the Dolphins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,What Would Vegas Do? by ravenhater on Tuesday 1 August 2006 at 11:49 pm

The Bills will beat the Dolphins on December 17th in Buffalo. Even when the Dolphins have the better team they don’t win in Buffalo. They can’t handle the cold as evidenced by the fact that the Bills have covered the last four times they’ve played the Dolphins, and the Bills have covered 3 of the last 4 at home against the Fins. It will be cold and the Bills players will be rolling up their sleeves and punching the Fins in the mouth.

Take the points if you’re getting some and take your money to the bank on Monday.

Craig Nall injured

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by ravenhater on Tuesday 1 August 2006 at 1:09 pm

Craig Nall hurt his hamstring and will miss ten days to three weeks. Thus the QB competition is probably down to Kelly Holcomb vs. JP Losman.

This hurts the Bills a little as Nall could have been their wildcard for this season.

Bills halfbacks to tote the rock more

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Tuesday 1 August 2006 at 12:06 pm

The Bills are a little shaky at the QB position and receiver positions so it just makes sense that they would try to run more. Dick Jauron is one of those old school coaches that likes defense and the running game. It would seem that he is a good fit for this kind of roster.

Willis McGahee has been a very good player the last two seasons. Last year defenses ganged up on him as JP Losman didn’t scare anyone with his arm. McGahee still rushed for over a 1,000 yards anyway. McGahee has rebounded strongly from his knee injury suffered against the Buckeyes in the National Title Game a few years ago. The Bills are starting to reap the rewards from picking him in the first round even though he would have to rehab for a year. In 32 games (26 starts), McGahee has rushed for 2,375 yards (3.9 ypc) and 18 TD runs. He also caught 50 passes for 347 yards. McGahee has increased his yards rushing each season and I see that trend continuing this season.

The A-Train, Anthony Thomas was signed to back-up McGahee and he should do a fine job as he rested up for the job last season (only rushing for 92 yards with the Saints). Thomas is a power-runner that has two 1,000 yard rushing seasons to his credit. In 60 games (39 starts), Thomas has rushed for 3,424 yards (3.8 ypc) and 21 TD. He also has caught 76 passes for 522 yards.

The third back is third year player Shaud Williams. Williams is productive when he plays, but he doesn’t get much of a chance. Williams has never started a game, but played in 20 the last two seasons. Williams has 328 rushing yards (3.8 ypc) and 2 TD. Williams has also caught 20 passes for 137 yards.

None of the three running backs has ever caught a TD pass, but I think that will change this season.
