Current Bills odds

The over/under for the Buffalo Bills is 6 1/2 wins. The Bills are currently 100-1 to win the Super Bowl and 50-1 to win the AFC.

The suggestion I will make might make Bills fans angry, but I think you have to take the under. Coach Dick Jauron has had one good season in his career as a head coach, and the Bills don’t have a decent QB to take advantage of WR Lee Evans. It will be a long season in Buffalo.

Bills lose 20-17 to Browns

The Bills had a so-so game, some good things happened as did some bad things. The last drive of the game by the Browns to win the game was sad, but it was against the back-ups. JP Losman looked decent for once last night. Losman completed 15 of 22 passes for 184 yards with a TD and one interception. Craig Nall looked ok, completing 8 of 14 passes for 126 yards and a pick.

The Bills did not run very good against the Browns defense. Willis McGahee rushed the ball 11 times for 29 yards (2.6 ypc). Lionel Gates ran the ball 8 times for 19 yards (2.4 ypc) and a TD.

WR Lee Evans continued his fine pre-season with 5 catches for 70 yards (14.0 avg). Peerless Price caught one pass, and it was a 54 yard touchdown.

The Bills just couldn’t stop the Browns from running on them. The Browns rushed for 128 yards on 29 carries (4.4 ypc). The Bills were playing good pass defense until the last drive by the Browns. The Bills allowed the Browns to complete 65.5% of their passes for 174 net yards through the air.

McGahee and Evans are off to a blistering start

The Bills top two playmakers are off to huge starts to the pre-season despite the shaky play of the QBs. McGahee has carried the ball 12 times for 93 yards (7.8 ypc) and a long TD run. Lee Evans has caught 3 passes for 115 yards (38.3 avg) and one of his catches was a long TD pass.

If one of the QBs would just step up, these two guys will have a chance to play in the Pro Bowl.

QB battle still ongoing

J.P. Losman looks like the leader but it’s by default. Losman’s numbers look ok, but he’s fumbled a couple times and has the happy feet in the pocket. Losman has completed 62.9% of his passes for 278 yards with a TD and one interception. His QB rating to date is 85.2. Losman will need to start showing some improvement to get the nod on opening day. Just because he was a first round pick, doesn’t mean he should have the advantage here. After all, it wasn’t the current regime that drafted him.

Craig Nall might have moved ahead of Kelly Holcomb with his good performance last week. Nall completed 5 of 9 passes for 63 yards and a TD in his first appearance. Nall has an outside shot to win the starting job, but he has a little catching up to do.

Kelly Holcomb has played poorly in the pre-season. He has completed 5 of 9 passes for 44 yards, and he threw a pick-off that was returned for a TD. His Qb rating is only 29.2. He can still make a move on Losman for the starting job, if he really picks up his level of play. Holcomb has by far the most experience of this bunch.

Bills looking bad in pre-season

The Bills have been very bad this pre-season. The Bills are turning the ball over way too much to be effective at all on offense, and it really has hurt the defense because of the short fields that are being set up for the opposition. The Bills running game has looked good (when they are not fumbling the ball) as they have averaged 127.5 yards per game with a robust 4.6 average per carry. The QBs have not been impressive. JP Losman looks like the leader at the position by default. The Bills are averaging 174.5 yards passing per game, while completing 58.6% of their passes.

The defense has played pretty well under the circumstances that the offense gives them. The Bills have been stout against the run holding opponents to 83.5 yards per game and only 3.2 yards per carry. The pass defense has yielded 194.0 yards per game and have let the opposition complete 59.7% of their passes.
